Help Save Noah's Ark From Corrupt Leadership
The Issue
Under the compassionate and experienced hands of Founder Jama Hedgecoth, Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary thrived as a sanctuary and rehabilitation center for thousands of animals in need including exotics, livestock, companion animals and wildlife for more than 30 years.
In the span of less than 6 weeks in 2022, the Board removed any directors that questioned the decision to fire the facility's founder and previous director, Jama Hedgecoth, and other experienced members of the Animal Care Team. Led by Chairman Glenn S Ross, this new Board of Directors essentially took over the once-esteemed nonprofit, leaving it struggling from lack of competency and accusations of for-profit corruption. Since the take over, hundreds of animals have died, hundreds have disappeared or been removed from the property with no information provided as to why, and hundreds of animals continue to suffer at the facility.
Shelly Lakly, President of Noah’s Ark since November 2021, along with Vice President Jay Allen and at least two other employees, are now facing multiple animal cruelty charges. Additionally, Noah's Ark is currently under investigation from USDA-APHIS, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Henry County Solicitor General Office, Henry County Animal Control and the Office of Senator Emmanuel Jones.
About The Campaign
Save Noah's Ark is a growing group of over 13,800 people working together to ensure the animals remaining at Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove, Georgia, are afforded the expert, compassionate, individualized care that they previously received under the leadership of founder Jama Hedgecoth and her family.
To achieve this goal, we work to expose the guilty parties for their crimes against the animals, the donors, the local community and the founding family. In doing so, we hope others will be able to learn from this travesty and prevent it from happening anywhere.
Save Noah's Ark is a nonviolent, all volunteer group. We recognize it isn't possible to fight injustice with more injustice, and that doing so would be counterproductive to our mission of helping animals.
There can be no justice without peace, and there can be no peace without justice.
Allegations of Misappropriation of Funds and Lack of Transparency
Under the previous direction of Founder Jama Hedgecoth, the cost to feed and care for Noah’s Ark’s 1000+ rescued animals was approximately $33,000 per month.
Under the current direction of President Shelly Lakly, why does Noah's Ark claim this cost is now $167,000 per month, when there are less than a few hundred animals left?
Why does President Shelly Lakly still receive a salary in excess of $140,000 when the animal population has been reduced by more than half, and the facility has been closed for over a year?
Is Noah’s Ark using donated funds to pay attorneys to defend their President, Vice President and employees in animal cruelty and reckless conduct charges? If so, are donors aware this is what their money is being used for?
Take Action
Before the current administration took over, Noah's Ark was straightforward and transparent with the public but now, donors, media outlets and even government officials are saying that they are being ignored and are unable to get any answers to their questions
The current leadership refuses to to be honest and forthcoming with the public, yet continues to solicit funds from unsuspecting, uninformed donors. They have learned how to quickly change their story to fit their narrative and hide from government.
Georgia State Attorney General Chris Carr must get involved and investigate Noah's Ark for potential financial crimes. He has the ability to put an end to the fraud and neglect happening at Noah's Ark.
